Why Study Civil & Environmental Engineering

This program has been designed to meet the on-going needs of society for infrastructure that is innovative and technologically advanced while still being socially and environmentally acceptable in the short term, and sustainable in the long term. The demand for civil and environmental engineers continues to be strong, with graduates generally able to choose between a number of attractive career paths.

The program comprises four years of full-time study. Courses include a mix of lectures, tutorials, laboratory exercises, research exercises and field trips. The combination of skills and technical knowledge that graduates acquire makes them ready to make a life impact in this fascinating area and primed to be life-long learners.

What will you learn?

This degree includes a core of civil engineering analysis and design, along with detailed studies in environmental science and engineering. It has a particular emphasis on environmental impact assessment and pollution control. Additional studies are carried out in environmental economics. In the final year of the academic program students can select electives from water engineering, geotechnical engineering, management and planning, or environmental engineering. This combination of Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering into a single degree is therefore very powerful. A graduate will have the skills to not only plan, manage and assess the effects of major engineering projects on the natural and built environment, but they will also be able to solve the associated environmental problems.
