School policy safety Clothes/Equipment

This School, in common with the University as a whole, is committed to the Occupational Health, Safety and Welfare Act.

In order to comply with various Occupational Health and Safety policies it is necessary that safety gear be worn at certain times. Listed below is this School's rules with regard to safety gear.

Laboratory Coats or Overalls

Students are required to wear laboratory coats, tied at the back, or overalls, when working on a project where chemicals are involved. This is particularly relevant to final year students.

Safety Boots

Safety boots are to be worn on site visits to construction areas, (this is particularly applicable to second year students).

Hard Hats

Hard hats will be supplied by the School, and are to be worn as directed by laboratory staff.

Goggles and Ear Muffs

Goggles and ear muffs are supplied by the School and are to be worn as appropriate.

Safety Glasses

Approved safety glasses must be worn when working on any equipment which could cause material to become airborne, or when working in the George Sved Stress Analysis Laboratory, or the Concrete Laboratory, or as directed by Laboratory Staff.

Closed Shoes

Closed toe type shoes must be worn in all Laboratories, bare feet, thongs or sandals are prohibited.

Students will be required to purchase gear not supplied by the School.
