Research

Research Interests

  • long-term modelling of nearshore coastal phenomena;
  • environmental impact of man-made changes to coastal features;
  • tidal inlets and coastal lagoons; and
  • engineering education.

Recent work has focussed on the situation at the River Murray mouth, where excessive inflows of sediment from the coast have led to severe restrictions in the region. This in turn has affected the ability of the Coorong to connect to the ocean, as well as detracting from the general environmental quality of the area.

The dredging program is the latest focus for work which will be supported by the Murray Darling Basin Commission and the Australian Research Council.

Dr Walker has been successful in attracting over $450,000 in sole or joint research grants since his appointment in 1995.
