Industry Speaker Panel

In September 2013, the Faculty's Women in Engineering and Technology Group hosted an industry speaker panel and networking event for female students in the Faculty of ECMS.

Featuring inspirational women with careers in engineering and technology, as well as representatives from organisations that value the recruitment of women, the event allowed speakers to discuss their career journeys and offer advice to current students on topics including professional communication, confidence, negotiation skills and networking.

View the videos below to see our panel of industry speakers share their experiences, advice and useful job seeking tips.

Job Seeking

You might be more employable than you realise

Graduate Application Advice

You can always tell someone that's prepared for the interview versus someone that hasn't

Important Professional Skills

Learning never ends in engineering

Negotiation Skills

Be confident in your abilities and believe in your abilities

Managing Difficult Colleagues

Develop the skills of having working relationships with someone, it doesn't have to be any more than that

Mentors

A really effective mentor is someone that deliberately stretches you

Networking

If you're going to talk to us at a careers fair, follow it up with a Linkedin connection

Attitude

Be prepared to work hard, but believe that you can do it

Challenges

One of the hard things that I've found was in meetings...to speak up

Overseas Opportunities

Experience like that teaches you amazing things about yourself and about the country that you come from
