The Bardavcol Scholarship
The University having accepted the offer of Bardavcol (Civil) Pty. Ltd. to establish a scholarship in Civil Engineering to encourage and assist students to complete a degree in Civil and Structural or Civil and Environmental Engineering, the following rules are hereby made:
- The scholarship shall be called "The Bardavcol Scholarship" and shall be available for award each year.
- The scholarship shall be of the value of $2,500 per annum, or such other amount as shall be determined in association with Bardavcol Pty. Ltd.
- Subject to satisfactory progress, as determined by the Selection Committee, the scholarship shall be tenable for up to 2 years by a student enrolled full-time in Level III and subsequently in Level IV of the Civil and Structural or Civil and Environmental programs for the degree of Bachelor of Engineering.
- Applicants for the Scholarship will be chosen on the basis of their aptitude for civil engineering contracting, leadership qualities, abilities in lateral thinking and innovation, and academic achievement.
- Application for the Scholarship shall be invited from any student enrolled in the second year course C&ENVENG 2015 Construction and Surveying. Applicants shall be made aware of the selection criteria identified in Rule 4 and shall be required to address them in their application.
- Applications shall be reviewed initially by the Head of the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering or the Lecturer in the course C&ENVENG 2067 Construction, Management and Surveying and a representative of Bardavcol Pty. Ltd.
- Nominations shall be considered by a Selection Committee consisting of two senior members of the academic staff of the School of Civil, Environmental and Mining Engineering nominated by the Head of that School and up to two nominees of Bardavcol Pty. Ltd. The Selection Committee shall make its selection on the basis of an interview of the candidates and the selection criteria listed in Rule 4.
- The Scholarship shall be awarded on the recommendation of the Selection Committee. No award shall be made if, in the opinion of the Selection Committee, no candidate is of sufficient merit.
- The successful candidate shall be offered 20 weeks full-time paid employment at times to be agreed by Bardavcol Pty. Ltd. and the awardee.* The first instalment of $2,500 shall be paid to the awardee when the scholar commences Level III of the program of study for the degree of Bachelor of Engineering in Civil and Structural or Civil and Environmental Engineering. Where a student is enrolled in a double degree program and is currently undertaking Level III, the payment will be made immediately. The second instalment shall be paid when the scholar commences Level IV of the program of study for the degree of Bachelor of Engineering in Civil and Structural or Civil and Environmental Engineering.
- The rules of the scholarship may be varied from time to time by agreement between Bardavcol Pty. Ltd. and theFaculty of Engineering, Computer & Mathematical Sciences.
* Please note that students enrolled in the single degrees of B.E. (Civil and Structural) and B.E. (Civil and Environmental) will normally be offered the paid employment at the end of Levels 2 and 3.
