The Gertrude Rohan Memorial Prize
Whereas Dr. Paul Rohan has agreed to provide an annual prize in Electrical and
Electronic Engineering in memory of his late wife, Gertrude Rohan, the following rules are hereby made:
- The prize, known as "The Gertrude Rohan Memorial Prize", shall be available for award each year.
- The prize shall be awarded to the best PhD thesis on a topic in the area of Information and Communications Technology in the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences.
- The prize shall consist of an award of $200 together with a commemorative medal.The Faculty may vary the amount of the award from time to time in order to maximise the award without depleting the endowed sum.
- A recommendation for the award of the prize shall be made by 1 October each year by the Head of School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences.
- The prize shall be awarded to the candidate, who qualified for the degree of PhD in the previous 12 month period between 1 July and 30 June, who is deemed to have produced the best PhD thesis, on the basis of the reports of the external examiners of the thesis, refereed publications and any other measurable attributes of quality provided that no award shall be made in the opinion of the Head of School none of the theses in the current year is worthy of the award.
- When two or more candidates are deemed to be of equal merit, each candidate
shall be awarded a medal and the prize shall be shared equally.
- The University may from time to time alter the above rules to accommodate changes that do not materially affect the selection process or frequency of award of the Prize. The name and purpose of the Prize shall not be changed.
