The Ann Coultas First Year Statistics Prize in the School of Mathematical Sciences

  1. There will be two prizes, known as the "School of Mathematical Sciences First Year Mathematics Prize" and the "Ann Coultas First Year Statistics Prize in the School of Mathematical Sciences", available for award annually.
  2. The prizes shall each be of the value $250 or such other amount as from time to time determined.
  3. The prizes shall be awarded annually and at the end of each calendar year by The Faculty of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences, upon receipt of advice from the Head of the School of Mathematical Sciences.
  4. To be eligible for either of the prizes, a student must be enrolled in the degree of Mathematical and Computer Sciences (or in a double degree including this program).
  5. The Ann Coultas First Year Statistics Prize in the School of Mathematical Sciences shall be awarded to the candidate with the highest score in either of Statistical Practice I first semester, Statistical Practice I second semester or Statistical Practice I (Life Sciences).
  6. The School of Mathematical Sciences First Year Mathematics Prize shall be awarded to the candidate with the highest combined aggregate score either in the courses Mathematics 1A and Mathematics 1B, or in the courses Mathematics 1MB and Mathematics IIM, these two courses to be taken in the same year or in consecutive years.
  7. In each case no award shall be made if in the opinion of the Faculty of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences there is no candidate of sufficient merit.
  8. In each case, if there are two or more candidates of equal merit, the prize shall be divided equally among them.
  9. These rules may be varied from time to time, but the general purpose of the prizes will not be changed.
