The ASOR Prize
The Australian Society for Operations Research has agreed to provide to the
University an annual prize in Operations Research. The following are the rules
for this prize:
- There shall be a prize known as the "ASOR Prize".
- The value of the prize shall be $200, or such amount as shall from time to
time be determined.
- The prize shall be awarded annually by the Faculty of Engineering, Computer
and Mathematical Sciences on the recommendation of the Head of the School of Mathematical
Sciences.
- To be eligible for the ASOR Prize, a student must have completed, in the year
of the prize, at least two of the following Level III Applied Mathematics courses
in the field of Operations Research: APP MTH 3001 Applied Probability III, APP
MTH 3014 Optimisation III, APP MTH 3005 Mathematical Programming III, APP MTH
3016 Telecommunications Systems Modelling III.
- The prize shall be awarded to the student, who, of those eligible, achieved
the greatest distinction in the work and examinations of the relevant Level III
Applied Mathematics courses taken.
- No award shall be made if, in the opinion of the Faculty of Engineering, Computer
and Mathematical Sciences, there is no candidate of sufficient merit.
- The prize may be shared if, in the opinion of the Faculty there are two or
more candidates equally deserving of the prize.
- The award will not be offered more than once to the same person.
- These rules may be varied by the Faculty from time to time, but the title
and general purpose of the prize shall not be changed.
