The E.O. Tuck Prize
In recognition of the contribution to applied mathematics of Professor E.O.
Tuck who served the University in the years 1967-2002, the sum of $14235 was given
to the University in 2004 by former students, friends and colleagues to establish
a prize for applied mathematics, and the following rules for this prize are hereby
made:
- There shall be a prize known as the "E.O. Tuck Prize".
- The value of the prize shall be $650 or such amount, as shall from time to
time be determined.
- The prize shall be awarded annually by the Faculty of Engineering, Computer
and Mathematical Sciences on the recommendation of the Head of the School of Mathematical
Sciences.
- To be eligible for the E.O. Tuck Prize, a student must have completed at least
six units of level II Applied Mathematics courses (defined as any course with
code APP MTH 2*** or STATS 2004) and have enrolled for at least 9 units of level
III Applied Mathematics (defined as any course with code APP MTH 3***).
- The prize shall be awarded to the student, who, of those eligible, achieved
the greatest distinction in the work and examinations of the level II Applied
Mathematics courses taken (as defined above).
- No award shall be made if there is no candidate of sufficient merit.
- If, in any year, two or more candidates are of equal merit, the prize shall
be shared equally.
- The award is not to be offered more than once to a successful candidate.
- These rules may be varied from time to time but the title and general purpose
of the prize shall not be changed.
