About Sustainable Energy Engineers (Electrical)

What do Sustainable Energy Engineers (Electrical) do?

Sustainable Energy Engineering (Electrical) is about the electrical technologies that form the basis of renewable energy systems including energy conversion, power electronics and power system integration and control. Graduates are expected to work in various industries including: designing, developing and building renewable energy technologies such as solar and wind; integration of renewable energy generation into existing power systems and their maintenance; and in economic planning and government regulatory bodies. This degree also provides a strong Electrical and Electronic Engineering background which gives graduates the flexibility to choose more general positions related to Electrical Engineering.

The electrical technologies covered in this degree include power electronics, electrical generators, photovoltaic cell technologies, distributed generation system control, data acquisition systems for measurement and monitoring, and electrical power quality and associated standards. In addition, the course provides a fundamental background of the mechanical and chemical components of energy systems for system integration.

Where do Sustainable Energy Engineers (Electrical) work?

Graduates may expect to work in various industries ranging from:

  • Designing, developing and building renewable energy technologies
  • Distributed generation system design and planning
  • Economic planning and government regulatory bodies
  • General positions related to Electrical Engineering
