Structural Mechanics Research GroupInterim Group Leader: Associate Professor Michael Griffith The group’s expertise is in the area of structural mechanics (including fracture mechanics, structural health monitoring and finite element modelling), with special emphasis on loadings due to wind, blast and earthquake. Strategic Focus The Structural Mechanics Research Group's (SMRG’s) research is very much applied in nature and is broadly concerned with the maintenance and rehabilitation of the built environment with special attention being given to critical infrastructure subject to extreme loadings due to man-made (e.g. blast) and natural hazards (e.g. cyclonic wind and earthquake). Emphasis is also given to the ongoing health monitoring, life-prediction and life-extension of high-value structural assets such as the military’s Scramjet. |
