High Schools Program

Secondary teachers and their students are invited to be part of the Schools Program in the Faculty of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences. Speciality talks, career guidance and hands-on tours are just some of the activities available.

This program aims to raise awareness of the many different opportunities available at the University of Adelaide and the diverse range of careers available to Faculty graduates.

If your school would like to participate in the High Schools Program, you may request any or all of the following activities by completing the Booking Form.

Speciality Talks

Years 8-12

Have a world-renowned staff member present to your class on a general or specific topic or area of study!

These staff are the 'Steven Spielbergs' of their field and are world authorities in their areas of expertise.

  • Acetylene, Bernoulli and Centrifugal Compressions (Chemical Engineering)
  • Looking Inside a Box with T-Rays (Electrical and Electronic Engineering)
  • Formula SAE - Making a Racing Car (Mechanical and Automotive Engineering)
  • Making Electrons Work for You - What do electrical and electronic engineers do? What is a computer systems engineer or a telecommunications engineer? This talk looks the work these engineers undertake in industry, the skills they have and the products and systems they design. (Electrical & Electronic Engineering)
  • Keeping Secrets with an Unbreakable Code - Smarter than Julius Caesar? In this talk you will learn how to crack Caesar's secret code, and then, how to create a code that can never be cracked. We will also look at how codes are used in electronics and computers for commerce and communication. (Electrical and Electronic Engineering)
  • Mobile Phones, More Than Meets The Eye - How does a handheld device have enough computing power to code and transmit video in real time? The video phone includes amazing samples of modern technology. (Electrical & Electronic Engineering)

South Australia's Virtual Reality Centre

Years 8-12

Come and visit the South Australian Partnership for Advanced Computing's world-class Virtual Reality Centre located at the University of Adelaide. This facility is available for bookings for up to 23 people to experience a 60 minute tour through the amazing virtual reality and stereo 3D worlds of geosciences, molecular sciences, architecture, aerospace engineering and petroleum engineering.

Cost: $100 per tour.

Campus Tour

Years 8-12

Come on campus to "see inside" the University of Adelaide. Tours vary in structure and length and demonstrate the more hands-on side of study in areas of engineering, computer science and mathematics. The intention is to leave students with an understanding of different disciplines within the Faculty as well as insights into undertaking study at the University of Adelaide.
